After a week of auditions and voting the Music Society has appointed two new conductors for the 2014/15 academic year.
The Society would like to thank all members who voted and, of course, all of those that auditioned. We only wish that we could have had you all!
A huge congratulations to our newly appointed conductors:
Choral Conductor 2014/15: Tom Lazell
Orchestral Conductor 2014/15: Owen Burton
Between the 27th and 31st of January Bangor University Music Society held a charity week in order to raise money for two children’s charities. The charities, chosen by society members, were:
– Banardos (National)
– Hope House (Local)
Overall, we managed to raise £80 throughout the course of the week.
Members were invited to come to rehearsals dressed in their pyjamas or onesies on both the Tuesday and Friday night. Of course, teddies were more than welcome!
At Wednesday’s Lunchtime Funtime members were invited to donate to the same causes. There were many wonderful acts and we all had a wonderful time!
Thursday’s social was the highlight of the entire week. Our social secretary, Robyn, organised a fantastic children’s party which saw many society members playing ridiculous children’s games (duck duck goose anyone?), culminating in a mass, department wide game of hide and seek. The prize for best hiding place has to go to Jack Davies! Emma Hembry also came away with a new friend having won the “Guess the Name of the Teddy” competition. It was a brilliant night for all!
The Music Society will be selling special limited edition pencils at rehearsals for the next few weeks. The pencils, costing 30p each, are available with English and Welsh text and would be perfect for marking up your scores in orchestra!
Buy your pencil from the refreshments stand during rehearsals.
The Music Society performed in a fantastic concert on the 13th December 2013.
The orchestra performed many favourites including
– H.M.S Pinafore
– London Suite
and highlights from the polar express
The choir sang many favourites including:
– Magnum Mysterium
– And So it Goes
– Sure on this Shining Night
and Ola Gjeilo’s ‘The Ground’
We even had some help from the audience during our communal carols
The Music Society Committee would like to acknowledge the help that we received from other societies. Stage Crew helped us out with some fantastic lighting and sound whilst Photography Society provided us with some fantastic pictures (courtesy of Anne Muth and and Roj Smith)

And of course, thanks to our wonderful conductors: Jack Shaw and Owen Burton!
